Hi, I’m Chris Long and welcome to another episode of 60-Second SEO.

Today we’re going to go over how you can quickly audit whether Google is indexing content that’s loaded via JavaScript by using the Rich Results tool.

Here I’m on a product page on Walmart.com, one of their cat and dog beds, and notice they use a lot of JavaScript to load the different elements of this page here. We’re just going to test one of the different elements.

Here’s a “Products You May Also Like” section, I can see they load products such as a rectangle, plush dog bed, a furhaven dog bed. So what we can do is use Google’s Rich Results Tool. This will actually show you what Google is able to see and replicate Google’s fully rendered DOM.

Here I’m actually going to test a few of the product names here. I search for “rectangle”, I can see that nothing comes up. Search for “furhaven”, nothing comes up as well. So this looks to be a missed opportunity.

On Walmart’s end is Google isn’t able to actually index this section, which means Google isn’t able to crawl the content, see it’s on the page, or crawl through to the actual internal links.

This is a really quick and easy way that you can use on your end to see if Google is actually able to index content that might be loaded through JavaScript.
